SEATTLE, WA {7/20/12}

The fourth stop of our book tour lead us to the Pacific Northwest and the beautiful surroundings of Seattle, WA. With Chef Matt Dillion as our unflappable tour guide we chilled out, frolicked with farm animals, and of course ate very well. Matt is the distinguished chef and owner of three of Seattle's favorite food and drink establishments: Sitka & Spruce, The Corson Building, and Bar Ferd'nand. Additionally, Matt and his partners run Old Chaser Farm on the stunning Vashon Island just southwest of Seattle. We took a ferry to the island to check out the farm and then cooked up a rustic, family-style spread back at The Corson Building in Seattle. Hanging with Matt in Seattle was just the laid back reprieve we needed and has rejuvenated us for our final destination: culinary dream world, San Francisco.

PORTLAND, OR {7/18/12}

We headed West for the third leg of the A Girl And Her Pig book tour. Chef Jenn Louis of Lincoln Restaurant took us under her wing and shared a number of her favorite Portland, OR culinary sweet spots. We started with a visit to Sauvie Island Organics where farmer and founder Shari Raider showed us around her organic farm on 18 acres just outside of Portland. Next we popped into Breakside Brewery for a tour and tasting with brewmaster Tony Petragila. We sampled Tony's wide range of local beers before heading over to Olympic Provisions to meet with salumist Elias Cairo. Eli lead us behind the scenes of his onsite meat curing facilities where we got to sport paper hats and butcher's coats, and left with armloads of delicious cured meats. The grand finale of this insider's tour was of course the spectacular feast we created together with Jenn at Lincoln. Thanks Portland! You lived up to the hype. Seattle, you're next.

CHICAGO, IL {7/15/12}

After kicking it in the heat and slower pace of the South, we shifted gears into the bustling rhythm of summertime Chicago. Chef Paul Virant was our gracious host. We had an amazing time collaborating with Paul on the second book tour dinner and signing that was held at his popular restaurant Perennial Virant. Paul and his friends Bruce Sherman (North Pond), Paul Kahan (Blackbird and many others), Nathan Sears (Vie) and Elissa Narrow, the pastry chef at Vie and Perennial Virant created an epic 5-course dinner with dishes inspired by recipes from the book. Prior to the dinner, Paul demonstrated his extensive pickling expertise by helping us to pickle the excellent tomatillos we discovered earlier at Chicago's Green City Market. We also got a chance to visit with Chef Jared Van Camp of Nellcote, who gave us a demo of his sophisticated in-house flour mill. The dancing pneumatic sifter has 8 different graded screens to filter the wheat into varying coarseness. This is serious DIY! Next stop: Portland.

CHARLESTON, SC {7/7/12}

The first stop on the A Girl And Her Pig book tour landed us in Charleston, SC with our affable host Chef Sean Brock. Sean is the esteemed chef of two renowned restaurants in Charleston: Husk and McCrady's. Sean showed us around his charming stomping grounds, shared with us his super limited edition 107 proof spin on the original famous Pappy Van Winkle's 20 year Family Reserve Bourbon (!), spit roast a whole lamb for the first book signing party and otherwise made us laugh, a lot. Thank you Sean and thank you Heirloom Book Company for having us! We are headed to Chicago happy and sated.
